Director/Community Worker

HISTORY

The Preventive Social Services Act was passed by the Provincial Government in 1966. The program was revamped and renamed the Family & Community Support Services Act in 1981. The Town of Bassano entered into an agreement with the Province for FCSS funding in 1985 and immediately joined the Brooks FCSS Board. This continued for about 9 years. In 1995 the program was severed from Brooks, a volunteer Board was formed in Bassano with a coordinator being hired in July, 1995. I was that coordinator.

The FCSS Board presently consists of Berna Moss, Audrey Wilcox, Pat Dyck, Sheila Evans, Jan Shydlowski, Kim Douglass, Marcy Forbes, Mirjam Janzen, and Danielle Schmidt. The Board brings to the table representation from working professionals, senior citizens, a homemaker and a teen. Who would know the community better? Town Council appreciates the volunteer Board. The Town provides funding as required by the Province as well as office space and materials to operate. The Act requires the Town to contribute 20% from local tax dollars.

PROGRAMS

The Regional Community Worker Program provides a link between the CFSA (Child & Family Service Authority), FCSS and the local community. Working in collaboration with each FCSS, Community Workers will help you identify resources available in your community as well as provide interim support.
