Crawling Valley Recreation Society NewsCrawling Valley campground enjoyed a great 2009 camping season and would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Corwin, Patsy & Allan for all their hard work this year. We now have a nice, safe Marina to use and we are now waiting for the grass to develop in the new sections. Trees will be planted next spring and we hope to be able to have access to the sites sometime in July. Watch for news on the 2010 Lottery Draws. We will have info, applications and fees available later in January. We are looking forward to the new season of camping. Please drop by for a stay and check out all the changes. The Ling Cod was weighed in by 9:00 Saturday coming in at 9lbs 7ozs. The tip ups & rods kept everyone busy for the first couple of hours Saturday morning until the fog rolled in, then the activity slowed down. While waiting for the action to resume participants found other activities to pass the time. Such as golfing, croquette, skating & cards, some even remembered how to use a GPS after being lost finding their way to & from the weigh station. Many enjoyed seeing the plane on Saturday & Sunday as well as a visit from a helicopter. The 2nd place winner came in early afternoon on Saturday weighing in at 7lbs 5ozs. The leader board then held until Sunday afternoon, when the 3rd place pike of 6lbs 9ozs and then the winning pike weighed in at 11lbs 1oz. At the conclusion of the Derby everyone moved to the boat launch parking lot where the prizes were presented, as follows; 2nd Place Pike 7lbs 5ozs Lester Canasa, Calgary, AB 3rd Place Pike 6lbs 9ozs Chris Coker, Airdrie, AB Ling Cod 9lbs 7ozs Chuck Getz, Rosemary, AB Draws from Cochranes Hardware, Bassano were as follows; Thank you to Cochranes Hardware, The Fishing Hole & Dennis with Bassano Vac Services for their contributions & continued support of our derby. We would also like to thank all the participants that traveled from near & far to take in our Derby and support the Crawling Valley Campground. Crawling Valley Recreation Society held their Fishing Derby on March 6th & 7th with 173 participants coming from as far east as Jasper, Ontario, west as Comox, BC & north as far as Sherwood Park, AB.
